Home: News: MPE Realizes Big Gains in Material Efficiencies After 30 Days From Installation
MPE-Inc. is a global company headquartered in Milwaukee, WI with manufacturing operations in both Milwaukee, WI and Monterrey, Mexico. Both facilities are ISO 9001-2000 certified and provide more than 225,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, with expansion planned for both facilities. MPE produces custom, high value carts, consoles, tables, metal fabrication and assemblies for medical and electronic OEMs.

These products contain a
variety of materials but a
large percentage consists of
sheet metal components fabricated
in-house at both
plants.
MPE’s fabrication facilities
utilize many CNC machines
including several Amada
Vipros , Pega a turret
punches, and Amada Apelios’ combination punch/laser
and Mitsubishi lasers that perform
the primary flat pattern
cutting for the operations.
In early 2005 MPE embarked on a project to evaluate the benefits of moving to a dynamic nesting environment throughout the shop as opposed to the static NC programs they had utilized for years. MPE had some time earlier already moved to cutting production on full sheets as opposed to pre-sheared blanks, and seen great benefit in doing so. However, by moving to a dynamic nesting environment, MPE hoped to gain in material savings, reduced WIP, and better throughput. They also hoped to consolidate NC programming by using one system for all machines rather than the systems provided by the various manufacturers. This would also provide the ability to send parts any direction quickly, adding greater manufacturing flexibility.
After evaluating several companies
offering nesting software
products, MPE settled on
NestONE Solutions and the JETCAM
Expert programming and
nesting solution. MPE is using
JETCAM Expert Premium with
the High-Performance Nester option.
NestOne are pleased to report that MPE has been using JETCAM for about a month as of this writing (Jan 2006) and is already running production at each facility for all machines. In fact, they began running production at the end of the week they were installed and trained.
